Does Diversity Pay?

Cedric Herring at the University of Illinois, Chicago asked the question, Does Diversity Pay? He addressed the answer in his article concerning race, gender and the business case for diversity. He offered several arguments on both sides of the table of whether diversity in organizations is a good or bad thing and proposed that perhaps it could be both. In his review of the literature, he discovered that while diversity, according to other researchers, might benefit the organization, it is difficult on group functioning.

As I am reading through the article and trying to digest it, I'm simply wondering, as an African American and woman, what price do we (people of color, women) pay to gain the opportunity to sit at the decision-making table? What price do our families pay? And while for our race and/or gender, the price might be worth it, is it too high a price for some? What, if any, is the alternative?
